Vriesea splendens

Good news, although I don't think it is visible in this picture, a new pup has just started forming. Apparently this species usually only produce one pup, but occasionally more. Over the past few days the pup seems to be happy and groing well, but it will be some time before it is large enough for me to separate it from the parent plant. Generally Bromeliads can be separated when they are about a third the size of the parent, but this probably varies between species, as some of the larger Bromeliads like Vriesea hieroglyphica would be a very substantial size, long before reaching a third the size of the parent. It would be nice if a second pup formed and I could have two plants from one parent, but I'm more than happy to have one pup after having doubted that would happen.
