Canna Durban

I purchased this Canna in August 2005 as a small, single stemmed plant. I re-potted in into it's current pot and it has stayed in my heated polytunnel up until now. It produces 8 - 10 stems each year, of which 2 or 3 usually flower in July or August. It usually dies back in November/December and starts to produce new shoots in March/April. Due to an unusually mild winter, temperatures in the polytunnel have been warmer than normal and this combined with the installation of a 400w metal hallide growlight has probably contributed to new shoots starting throughout the winter. I will probably move this to a larger pot in 2007 as the pot looked a little over crowded in 2006. I will also probably move the pot outside during the summer months, partly due to lack of space in the polytunnel, but also, I don't think it really gets sufficient light in there. Whilst not really appearing stretched the stems last year reached about 1.8m/6' before flowering and this species is usually only about 1.2-1.5m/4-5' overall.
