Ananas comosus

Due to the continuing rapid growth of the pineapple plant, I was forced to relocate it in April. Fortunately we had a warm month, so I was able to move some of the more hardy plants out of the polytunnel to make space. The new location is slightly cooler with a fair amount less light, so it is not quite as favourable for the pineapple, but still more than adequate for it to grow and stay healthy. I expect the growth rate to slow in the new position, although growth will probably falter for a period anyway, as it adjusts to the new environmental conditions, so it will be difficult to assess the normal growth rate in the new location for a short while. I will keep the feeding regime the same, but I will probably need to water slightly less frequently. The biggest downside with the lower light setting is that it may encourage the pineapple plant to grow larger, as the leaves become slightly stretched seeking more light, which is far from ideal with the limited space avialable.
