This palm came as a freebie with an order of other species that arrived at the end of 2005. I was previously fairly unaware of the species, but having researched it was quite pleased to find that, although tropical in nature it remains quite small, which I hoped would make it a good candidate for pot culture. This palm is known to die inexplicably and has a reputation for being difficult in cultivation. Despite this I had been very impressed with the results, as it had been growing faster than other people had reported for this species. Eventually, however, it proved true to it's reputation and in November after a very rapid decline, the whole palm looked brown, dried out and very dead. I still think this palm has many admirable attributes, including a red emergent leaf, which make it worth trying in cultivation, so I dare say I will take the plunge with this species again at some point.
