I received this palm in December 2005 as a small seedling, still only having strap leaves. I was told it was four years old at the time, but having been UK grown without supplemental heat, growth would have been slower than in habitat. Since it's arrival it's been in my heated polytunnel and growth rate has increased substantially. I re-potted it in the spring of 2006, which didn't slow it down at all. It has been very easy to care for, coping with a move from one end of my polytunnel to the other, which may not sound like much, but it was quite a change in temperature and light levels and it just kept growing. It is now about 900mm/3' tall and will probably venture outside this year or next, depending on it's growth and the space available in my polytunnel. Whilst it will obviously be slower when it does go outside, it will be interesting to see just how hardy this species is.
