Unfortunately one of the Heterospathe scitula seedlings died in March. As with most of the small seedlings that I have lost from other species, there was no indication of poor health, it just decided to lay down on the surface of the pot. I suspect it may be the result of small insects eating the stem at or just below ground level. Fortunately the other three are all fine and have continued to grow well. Whilst the leaf tips still seem to be burning slightly, the leaves have been opening properly, possibly due to them becoming a little stronger with a little more size. After the death of the one seedling, I intend to spray everything with a broad spectrum systemic insecticide and fungicide in the very near future. I have noticed a few small insects about, albeit nothing that looked too threatening, but I don't want to take any chances.
