I potted up 12 Geonoma schottiana seeds on 02/10/2006 into 5cm/2" root trainer bands, using a mixture of perlite, coir and composed bark chips with normal potting compost. They were treated the same as most of the other seeds I started around that time, i.e. in plastic storage containers inside my heated polytunnel. During December the container was moved to a cooler, shadier location for the benefit of some of the other species inside that had already sprouted. Since then the first Geonoma seed sprouted in February, possibly due to the reduced temperature. There have been no subsequent seeds sprout yet, I'm not sure if this is because in their original location they became dormant due to temperatures higher than they would normally see in habitat. Either way, I'm hopeful that I may see a few more germinate, if I can keep the temperatures at an appropriate level.
