I received these Dypsis heteromorpha as a pair of bare rooted, two leaf seedlings at the end of 2005. I potted them together in a rather oversized terracotta pot in a mix of 60% potting compost and 40% sand. They have put on steady growth since then and seem generally healthy, kept in my polytunnel in a fairly shady location with temperatures ranging from 18°C/64° winter low to 34°C/93°F summer high. As with many of my plants, they are currently looking below their best due to calcium deposits from the foggers, which have since been turned off until I can sort a better arrangement. I noticed that potting mixes with a reasonable to high percentage of sand seem to degrade fairly quickly and lose any air retention properties, so in February I added some coir, perlite and barkchips to the mix in an attempt to overcome this, although it is a temporary measure and won't be fully remedied until the plants are re-potted. I may try these outside when they are considerably larger, but they will receive some winter protection when we are expecting a Freeze.
