I potted up ten or so seeds of Dypsis florencei, two per pot, into 5cm/2" root trainer bands on 15th October 2006. They were kept in my heated polytunnel at 24-32°C/75-90°F and placed inside plastic storage boxes with wet gravel in the bottom to try and retain humidity. By December a few had germinated, but they went brown and died almost immediately, which I assumed was due to excessive light, so I moved the remaining pots to a more shaded area. A further seed which was just emerging at the time, seems to be OK, but no further seeds have germinated yet, possibly due to lower temperatures in the new location. Growth on the one surviving plant has been very slow, but it still looks healthy. I'm hoping the remaining seeds will germinate this year as temperatures pick up.
